Business context

The client is a leading European drone manufacturer: fixed-wing VTOL, cm-level survey accuracy, sold to mining, construction, and urban planning teams worldwide. The hardware was world-class.

But flight data lived on local PCs and USB drives. Teams couldn't easily share missions or review them across locations. For a product sold on precision and speed, the workflow around it was adding hours to every job. The company spent a year building a cloud platform in-house. The progress stalled.

We had to unify terabytes of data into one cloud-native system

Our client’s drones can scan large areas or mines in a single flight. But terabytes of captured data lived on local machines and USB drives, making data sharing nearly impossible.

They needed a cloud-native platform so users could view and edit flights from any device, anywhere. The company started building it in-house, but progress was slow, so they brought in Radency engineers to speed up development
Portability
Migration to cloud
The app tied users to one computer. We had to make flight planning accessible on any device.
throughput
Complex data
Drones generated terabytes of data in multiple formats. The system had to process it quickly.
simplicity
Full redesign
We had to redesign the app so that even non-tech teams could use it.

From stalled rebuild to platform launch

The client first came to Radency for CRM integration. The partner-led model and engineering depth earned trust and the client expanded the scope, asking us to help build the cloud platform alongside their in-house team.
01
Solution Architect leads, team scales to four
From a single engineer to a partner-led squad. Once the cloud platform scope was confirmed, our Solution Architect took ownership of the build and brought in three full-stack engineers to start work alongside the client's in-house team.
02
One codebase, three platforms
The original plan called for two parallel teams — one for desktop, one for cloud. We ran a PoC first to prove a single codebase could ship the same features across desktop, web, and mobile. It could. That decision is what made 2x development speed possible later.
03
Feature parity, across three surfaces
Three months from the team forming, the platform matched every feature of the existing desktop app, but now running on web, desktop, and mobile, with a redesigned interface and advanced flight planning built in.
04
One product team, one stack, one roadmap
With the platform proven, the client merged their in-house team with ours, same tech stack, same standups, same product roadmap. The two-team structure never came back. We worked as one engineering org from this point on.
05
Launch unlocks a software revenue stream
The platform shipped. Within months, the client introduced three software subscription tiers, a revenue model they didn't have before. Hardware-only customers became hardware-plus-software customers.
06
Still building, now at scale
Three years in, our engineers and the Solution Architect remain part of the client's product team, focused on platform performance, new sensor integrations, and shipping features at the cadence enterprise customers expect.

Results achieved with Radency

50% revenue growth
With the new cloud platform, users gained more value, so now the client offers 3 software subscription levels, boosting revenue by 50%.
Customers pick them for the software now
Cloud sync, offline mode, integrated map editing: features competitors couldn't match. Buyers started choosing the platform first, the drone second.
From quarterly to weekly releases
Before, the client’s team shipped new versions once every 3 months. With Radency, the co-founder got the weekly updates he needed to keep stakeholders confident.
2x development speed
Radency’s engineers built 3 complex cloud apps with one codebase, speeding the development twice at least.
“Very good implementation, technically and visually for the user. Delivered on time as promised. Great responsiveness, fast and well-executed work.”
Product Lead, Client Team

Cloud-native drone platform used worldwide

The new platform lets users plan, edit, and manage drone flights from desktop, web, or mobile, with real-time syncing and offline access. Flight data can be visualized in 2D/3D maps, post-processed into multiple formats, and precisely geolocated for accurate mapping
01
AWS cloud sync with offline mode

Users can access and update flights from anywhere. Offline mode lets teams edit flight plans without the Internet, with all changes syncing once connectivity is restored.

02
Flight planner migration

We recreated Wingtra’s desktop flight planner in the new app, ensuring 3D simulations accurately match real-world drone paths for precise flight execution.

03
Post-processing of captured data

We built a post-processing pipeline that turns raw drone captures into flat maps, 3D models, or lidar point clouds with no extra software required.

04
Groundstation integration

Our developers integrated Ground Station to track drones with just 3 cm error instead of meter readings, using satellite signals and real-time corrections.

05
Map editing tools

An intuitive interface replaces the complex previous viewer, letting users edit maps, split areas, follow flight paths, or switch coordinate systems quickly.

06
Feature flags

Feature flags let Wingtra control which features are available for each subscription level, so new tools can be rolled out safely.

The new cloud app attracts more users

Initially, the client wasn’t sure a cloud drone platform was possible. Two years later, it’s live and successfully attracting new users, who choose them over competitors, thanks to the new system

Before
Limited platform with no data sharing
Releases once in 3 months
Visually complex interface
Data post-processing required external software
Revenue capped at hardware sales
After
Full cloud platform with access from desktop, web, and mobile
2X faster delivery with one codebase for all platforms
Intuitive design accessible even for non-technical teams
Integrated map editing, Pix4D processing, and geodetic adjustments
Revenue increased by 50% thanks to software sales
